Computing for Beginners
Topics covered:
• Computer terminology
• Turn on and shut down computer (logon/off)
• Parts of a computer
• Windows Introduction
o Using a mouse and keyboard
o Games and tutorials
• Windows features:
o Toolbars, menus, dialogue boxes, minimise/move window
• Managing files & folders
o Storing data (and finding it again)
o Opening, deleting, renaming files
o Creating folders
o Moving/copying files (usually done in Beginners 2)
• Desktop
o Changing your screen saver, background or colour scheme
o Creating Shortcut or adding to Taskbar
• Adding items to Start Menu
• Using Help
• Using some of these programs:
Depends on time
o Paint
o Notepad
o Calculator
o Sticky Notes
o PowerPoint
o Publisher
• Insert graphic/picture into Notepad document from free internet images
• Printing
• Computer security

Several Classes have been run successfully in all groups (Beginners/Advanced/Tablets & Phones) since the beginning of the year and all students seem to be very thankful for the help. There will be more Classes available in the near future for both the Beginners & Advanced Classes.

A small group is currently coming to grips with WORD. Anyone else interested in a future class for Beginners, contact DAVID DUNKLEY Conmputer Course Coordinator.
