Green Thumbs Group
Mackay Tennis Association Club House
125 Kippen Street
We do not pretend to know all the answers but we are all passionate gardeners and are looking for other like-minded people to join our group and let us find answers to problems and learn together.
Meetings are on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. We will visit gardens as often as possible and questions to problems can be raised before afternoon tea. Share your garden problems, experiences and knowledge with us.
U3A Green Thumbs visited Robyn McDonald’s garden in Mount Pleasant recently. Robyn has quite a large collection of Bonsai, a couple of her plants are 45 years old, also a variety of plants including Desert Roses.
Robyn gave a very good demonstration of how to pot, plant, and shaping of the plants and how to care for them. This very informative afternoon was enjoyed by all who attended.
The U3A Green Thumb Group will not have a meeting on Wednesday 14th August as instead members voted to go on the bus trip with the Orchid Society on Sunday 25th. The cost of the trip is $20 which includes the bus trip, lunch (BBQ) and afternoon tea on return. They also have a Cent Sale.
The bus leaves North Mackay Primary School between 8.00 – 8.15 am from the corner of Evans Avenue and Harvey Street for a great day out.
Please have your name and money in to Sandra Rutherford by Friday 16th August.
On the 11th September we will meet at Sandra Rutherford home at 20 Karl Langer Crescent, North Mackay for a “Plant Swap”.
